~ Reclaimed For Purpose (RFP) ~ |

MATFA trains and supports mentors to help youth in the program acquire skills needed for re-entry into society. Our mentors counsel all individuals in the program to help them understand that they are "at risk" of being incarcerated again if they do not change their lives. Mentors help transition incarcerated youth back into society as productive citizens. MATFA's curriculum has helped young people succeed by looking at the choices they make on a daily basis.
MATFA provides post release support programs for both the youth and their families. Training includes:
• |
Family Guidance |
• |
Job Preparedness |
• |
Life Skills Training |
• |
Moral Guidance |
|
| |
|
|
When young men and women are released from incarceration, MATFA prepares them for school, provides job training, job placement, housing, and family counseling. Each week, founder Melanie Washington and MATFA's Mentors are working* and will be working with youth from 10 to 25 at the following institutions:
• |
SRCC in Norwalk, California* |
• |
Chino, California* |
• |
Central Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles, California* |
• |
Ventura, California* |
• |
Sylmar, California |
• |
Hudson Elementary School in Long Beach, California* |
• |
Cabrillo High School in Long Beach, California |
• |
Hamilton Middle School in Long Beach, California |
The MATFA mentors assigned to the prison are able to visit up to 6 different dorms/cottages 2 hours per week OR 1 dorm/cottage 2 hours per month.

~ Peace in the Storm (PITS) ~ |
| |
MATFA founder, Melanie Washington, has had many storms in her life. How she made it through many wonder today. She is always willing and ready to share with those who are hurting and in the midst of life's storms. She shares the "how to's" of not only getting through the storm, but coming out of it strong and filled with peace and forgiveness.
People often find themselves in the PITS, but in reality, it's when you're in the PITS that you can find the greatest peace of all. In these modern times when all that surrounds us seems to be full of bad news - recession, lost jobs, no money, violence and terror, know that you can still find peace. Contact MATFA today to learn more about the PITS program.. |
